Founding Members

 

Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan is one of the first individuals to stand up to President Gayoom’s government. He has been a Member of Parliament for Male’ being voted in with the highest majority ever recorded up to that point. Dr. Waheed has also worked for the United Nations as the head of UNICEF.

He was the head education for UNCIEF in Tanzania and Bangladesh. He has been the Representative (head of the office) of UNICEF for South Asia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Macedonia, Montenegro and Turkmenistan. He was also a senior advisor for both the UN Development Group in New York as well as for the Afghan Education Ministry.

Dr, Waheed is responisble for touching and helping millions of lives all over the world, leading teams that has strived to make the world a better place, and is now dedicating himself to the betterment of the Maldives.

 

Dr. Mustafa Lutfi has been appointed as the new Minister of Tourism from 15 September 2004.

Dr. Mustafa Lutfi has worked in the government since 1975 mostly in the field of education and tourism. He is also the former Minister of Tourism.  In the past 29 years he had contributed hugely to quality improvement and development of education and tourism in the Maldives. Dr. Lutfi also served as Atoll Chief of Fuammulaku Atoll for one and a half years.

A notable thing to add is that he had published text books for school children in the Maldives .

As the Minister of Tourism, he maintained a controlled expansion of tourism so that it could be sustainable in the long term while providing its benefits to the entire population of the country.

 

Dr. Mohamed Rasheed is currently the head of the World Health Organization in Nepal. He used to work for the Ministry of Health in Maldives before working for WHO. Though he has not been in the country, he has been active in the Maldives having played  a part in establishing a number of NGOs, a foundation and other civil society organizations. Dr. Rasheed is a respected member of the Maldivian community.
