Building Up Our Economy

Gaumee Itthihaad's general policy would be continuation of further investments in the tourism sector which will remain the engine of Maldives economy. However, there should be a greater role for public participation in investment projects through both public shares an employee ownership programmes (ESOPs). The other major push would be for diversification which will include strengthening of the fisheries sector, stimulating greater investments in agriculture and commerce. The Diversification strategy can include some off shore financial services and IT based industries. These have to be developed from scratch so we have to do feasibility analysis and pilot projects.
