Health Care Policy
It is evident that the current system of health care has failed to deliver services to the expectation of the general public. In addition to improving the quality of health services, there is an ever growing demand to broaden the facilities available at different levels of health care delivery. It is distressing to see that the cost of health care is beyond the reach of the average person, restricting access to health care. Gaumee Itthihaad will work to provide substantial solutions for these issues.
It has now become important to encourage, engage and facilitate NGO’s to participate in health promotion activities and health services delivery. It is also possible to lure more students to health related subjects by revising, upgrading and broadening the curriculum of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
It has also become necessary to provide free medical care for the needy and for the disabled through a system of social security.
We also need to create a health act that would ensure patient safety and uphold the quality of health care.
To develop the health services in the Maldives, we need to broaden the services available and train local health care providers keeping in focus the future needs of the country so that the need to travel abroad for medical care is reduced.
“Local medicine” practice can be developed and revived if the medicines are made safe. This can be done by providing scientific research and modern technology to the field of local medicine.
