Housing and lodging has become one of the major issues in many of the islands of Maldives.

Gaumee Itthihaad believes that It is the responsibility of the government to provide every individual with acceptable housing at an affordable price. It is also necessary to provide lodging for the poor on subsidized rates and provide soft loans to those individuals who wish to develop their plots.

Gaumee Itthihaad will ensure the development of islands to be well planned and to provide basic facilities. All communities should have access to health care, education, shops, transport and also have recreational areas.

Due to high demand, the rents of apartments are remarkably high in Male’. To prevent abuse of the rights of tenants and as well as those of home owners strict regulations will be implemented.

It would be prudent to implement strategies that would encourage home builders to use renewable energy in new buildings and provide a place for vehicles of its occupants.
