Religion

Islam is the only religion in the Maldives. The culture, traditions and social life of the people are based on Islamic laws and values. Gaumee Itthihaad will enhance the Moderate Islamic traditions of the Maldivian society. In this regard, the role of the Mosques, religious scholars and religion‐based NGOs will be increased. An independent “Fathuwa Council” will be established for issuing final decreases on controversial religious issues, thus, limiting the influence of the Government on important religious matters.
In addition, Gaumee Itthihaad will establish and foster relations with reputable international Islamic organizations and seek their assistance in promoting Islam in the Maldives.
